Bolivian estrella microlot

This lot was produced by Juan Ticona and Cristobal Calani - two neighbours in the small settlement of Colonia San Juan 8 Estrellas, in Bolivia's Caranavi Province. Juan and Cristobal both farm using fully organic methods, benefiting from Juan's decades of experience of producing coffee without the use of any chemicals or pesticides. This lot is made up of Typica, Yellow and Red Caturra, and Catuai varietals. The coffee has a crisp raspberry acidity, with apricot and jasmine fragrance and aroma with a clear and complex fruity aftertaste. Very balanced and very sweet.

The Fazenda São Marcos Norival bean is a semi washed, Obata variety grown in the Piraju region in Sarutaiá, São Paulo by Norival Favaro. The farm is on 157 hectares, 100 of which is comprised of coffee trees and is at an altitude ranging from 900 to 985 meters. Only 46 x 30kg bags were produced. This coffee ranked 5th in Brazil’s Cup of Excellence with a superb score of 90.27. This coffee is typical of high grade Brazilians, with huge chocolate and caramel notes and thick lingering mouth feel and body. This coffee also offers a surprising acidity meaning it is well matched for milk based options.

The Brazilian COE Sitio Sao Jose is a bright, lively bean with a pleasant acidity and strong body with notes of dark chocolate, liquorice and vanilla. It is grown by the Pereira Nogueira Family, who are 4th generation coffee growers. The Sao Jose Farm is located 3km away from the town Carmo de Minas - MG on the Mantiqueira mountain range. The Sitio Sao Jose beans are of the Catuai variety and are harvested when the beans are fully matured. Only 960kg of green bean was produced. The beans carry an International Jury Score of 87.68 in Brazil’s Cup of Excellence competition and finished 11th out of thousands of entries.

This plantation is situated on the Apaneca-Ilamatepeq mountain range in Atiquizaya province, 1300 - 1900m above sea-level.This particular variety is 100% bourbon. The International Jury scored it 89.22. Beautiful honey, papaya aroma and flavor. A lemon lime acidity with a very refined, super clean cocoa finish.

Nicolas Mountain (aka Santa Teresa IV) is an organic coffee plantation located in Ahuachapan. The estate is surrounded by Geysers and thermal water springs. This 100% Pacamara lot was given a score of 86.11. Sugar cane and dark cherry aroma and flavours. Lively tartaric acidity with an awesome creamy mouthfell.

Tekangu Farmers Cooperative Society comprises 910 members that are “small holder farmers”, possessing about 1 hectare of land each where they grow maize, bananas, coffee and other crops. The coffee is hand-picked by the farmers and their families. It is a well-developed cooperative that focuses on producing quality coffee and selling for a high price in order to improve the quality of life of its members. The members are trained on a regular basis in sustainable farming practices. The coffee is very aromatic with sweet floral, berry and plum flavours and a rich mouth feel. The flavour lingers and has fantastic bright acidity.

The Guatemalan Finca Santa Clara Bourboncillo bean is a vibrant, juicy, honey-sweetened coffee with a very clean taste and apricot notes. A 100% bonboncillo dwarf bourbon variety grown between 1,600 – 1,830m. This Bourboncillo bean is grown by the renowned Zelaya family on their farm the “Finca Santa Clara” in Antigua. Santa Clara won 3rd place in the first Guatemalan Cup of Excellence in 2008 and was again recognised amongst the winners in 2009.
